Re: Most Important Attributes by Position (Revised and Updated)

The reason I don't list them is because of the base defense I play isn't applicable to everyone. My MLB weights look a lot like my OLB weights without B&R and more Zone. My SS weights look like my FS without B&R and more Zone. Basically, I play my SS like a FS, and my MLB like I would if there was a Tampa 2 on the game.

So basically, they're (in your experience) some of the more customizable positions - is what I read.

That's fair tbh. I'm just looking for guidelines. Also, you wrote "MLB / SS / FS
* NOT POSTING BECAUSE I PLAY A SPECIFIC DEFENSE THAT ISN'T USEFUL FOR MOST PLAYERS AT THIS POSITION " - so the safety part is still secret.

Thanks for all the replies, I'll get working. :-)

Also only just noticed that I don't have to save each individual setting, but can just set them and go next position... That's a time saver. :D

I've updated my weights for 0.4.5 since it's getting close to release.

Weights

The current weights can be found here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bWKAP70R1LB21BMTA0k_n1QP8QLwgSUa/view?usp=sharing

Important Changes

* JDB is moving a lot of attribute calculations to be parabolic as opposed to linear. If you're not sure what that means, PM me because I don't really want a lengthy explanation of just that in this thread.

Basic explanation is that <50 attributes for things like Passing Accuracy and Speed are much worse than 60 <= attributes, and <50 Passing Accuracy shouldn't be played.

* Coverage updates being made in 0.4.5 will make B&R even more important.

Is that on 4.4 too? I just saw two stud rookie qbs that have low current accuracy but high potential go 1/25 and 0/15 in preseason for teams. Don’t think I’ve ever seen that except your guy in 75 preseason

Yes - The preseason 75 experiment shed a lot of light on that change.

I'm still playing in a 0.4.3 league so I have two short questions after take a first look over your new weights for 0.4.5:

1) I recognize a major change in your DE weights compare to your weights for 0.4.3 (First post on site 8 of this thread). There you weight the physicals ACC & STR very high, now you weights PR (or RD for RDE) higher than ACC & STR? Could you give a resaon for that change?

2) In your new weights you weight B&R slightly higher than M2M for OLBs. But OLBs cover WR4 or WR5 most of the time. Especially in Nickel formations. And on short routes I weight M2M higher than B&R so far. Is there really a change from 0.4.3 to 0.4.5?

1) Yes, this change reflects a change in versions. Prior to 0.4.1, Pass Block vs Pass Rush came down to Speed versus Speed to determine which player got positioned first. This has been greatly reduced. I still find AC to be important for chasing down players since AC is the equalizer for physical weight.

That said there are still two ways to play that position. Rely on technical skills to make up for lack of ideal Speed. Or rely on Speed to make up for lack of ideal technical skill. Personally, I'd rather have the technical skills than ideal Speed since good Strength and technical skill players on the DL can still force hurries and dominate the inside run game.

2) I play a lot of normal defense against the 113 and 203 so my WLB often ends up covering the WR3. Regardless, whatever OLB I have covering the TE (WR3 in the normal sets or WR4 in the Nickle) needs to have >80 B&R to really be effective. Otherwise, good TE teams will destroy you regardless of their TE's SP.

I got 72-1169-11 out of my TE in this league, and he's barely above average: https://nfl.myfootballnow.com/team/17

More ridiculously I got 81-829-11 out of a <50 SP TE in this league (on a team that I'm rebuilding that had massive cap problems): https://usflwfl.myfootballnow.com/team/9

Also, is your MFN handle really Guy Debord? I thought I was the biggest nerd on here. ;)

I misread question 1 above. The reason for valuing the technical skills over the physical skills in 0.4.5 is because of how pass blocking works now and how QBs stay in the pocket.

Before 0.4.5, offensive lineman held the block longer when Pass Block was equal to Pass Rush.

The reason why prior to 0.4.5 OL held the block longer was was because QBs took FOREVER to decide where to throw and QBs also wandered all over the field. This made fast DEs that much more valuable because they could chase a QB that decided to leave the pocket.

Starting in 0.4.4, QBs do a better job staying in the pocket and not wandering away. And starting in 0.4.5, QBs make decisions like real QBs so there wasn't a need to give the OL a bonus anymore.

So in 0.4.5, technical skills become that much more important because it allows your DL to win the rush faster.

Debord would definitely approve of you playing a simulation game as a replacement for reality. ;)
