i know just threw this up for reference for the conversation.

oh also just checked and in the 2015 season in the NFL only 7 players had over 1,000 yards rushing and the season leader in rushing had 1,485 yards.....compare this to MFN and you should see why we say madden numbers

What's crazy about those stats is the running game could actually improve....I know I'm not alone when you do a toss or sweep and your RB runs faster than his blockers...Or when a RB breaks a tackle but the lineman runs back to block the guy that just missed but the RB is tackled somehow....

Most running plays could be improved. There are very few that actual work. The ones that do work are very overpowered unless you specifically plan a way to stop them.

I do agree with you about the LB position not getting enough tackles...I think if assisted tackles counted that number would be higher and more respectable

This year in MFN 1 I have ss, mlb, cb, wlb, cb as my leading tacklers in order. I add the sacks to the tackles cause this game does not count it either. It seems more balanced but still i was thinking of watching a game slow and record my own stats and see the difference. Also still no screen plays. They make up for 10 percent or more of the nfl plays each season. The play is different here in that aspect.

In 1995 there were 16 players that rushed for over 1,000 yards. The NFL is definitely more of a passing game now if we are using that as a comparison (which a game is never going to compare well with). In real life it would be rare that you run a HB 400 times in a season with considerations to fatigue and wear and tear. In this game there is no effect on a HB to touch the ball that much outside of a higher chance of getting hurt.

The last, and only, time a RB averaged more than 8.0 YPC in the NFL was 1934: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/F/FeatBe00.htm

I'm sure we all remember that mythical year that Beattie Feathers had...

Then what constitutes an established league? MFN-1 has the best developed players and the most active owners. Because I'm seeing similar stats in MFN-2 as I see in 13, 16, 19, and Fake Pigskin. In all of those leagues, owners are putting up Madden numbers in the running game.

I still think most of this has to do with LBs not playing in position to get tackles and then getting consistently shrugged off when they attempt to tackle. I've seen too many shrug off that I think there is a legitimate tackling issue, and the lack of LB stats evidence that. (In MFN-2, there are 4 LBs in the top 40 for tackles. The highest rated one is 20th in the league. All others are DBs.)

I'm pretty sure what he means by established leagues are leagues where you're not going to have several games a season where you can easily run for 300+ yards because a portion of your schedule is so watered down. In MFN1 the vast majority of the games are close, you can't look at season stats and based all of your assumptions off of that for realism. You have to look at games where the talent level is comparable. We also can't discount what tanking does to stats as well.

The whole point is if tackling worked better, and LBs actually played up to their talent levels (95+ LBs with 100 tackling and 100 run defense with 50 tackles in a season is the norm), there wouldn't be as many games that looked watered down at all. It would also justify spending lots of money on LBs when right now you can pick up three guys off the street that have decent speed and decent tackle and get the same production as three guys who should be all pros.

There is always going to be frustration and disappointment if you (not you specifically) are hoping for the stats in MFN to mirror the stats in the NFL.

Do you think the rushing (or passing) numbers in MFN would be as high if you were able to make in game adjustments? I don't. In the NFL you can.

Do you think the rushing (or passing) numbers would be higher in the NFL if a lot of teams didn't bother to game plan for their opponent, or put it on "cruise control" for the entire season, or didn't pay attention to what was actually taking place on the field when calling plays? I do.

For me, it's almost better to evaluate the stats on a play by play basis. Is this play "realistic"? A game can be full of "realistic" plays, while the overall stats for that game may not be (by NFL standards).

Even if you had a league in MFN comprised of 32 owners who were paid big money to do this, and would lose their job if they weren't successful, you would STILL not have stats that mirrored the NFL because of the limitations we have on gameplanning/scouting/in-game adjustments/etc.
