WTH? Sacks gone through the roof!

Thank god this is only pre season, we've just given up 13 sacks in one game, which is by far the most we've ever given up.
Looking at my gameplan now and it looks like I will have to rip up and start over.
Am I missing something?

No, don’t think about it to hard. Defensively We’re averaging over 13 sacks a game. If you want to beat it throw shorter passes which will lower the time for snap to pass. I am not saying throw it to backs every time but plays having the primary option being a quicker route to finish the better off you are. Doing common sense stuff will help...limit longer passes or stuff like extra blockers but blockers are getting best so fast that’s just not enough. A quick slip out to the back and is almost more viable/safe.

There’s a few ways blockers are beat. The actual pass blocking skill vs pass rush. Which seems to matter little right now.

The second type is also when they are engaged but it focuses more on the “speed rush” aspect of blocking. I look at acceleration and or speed then the size matchup of the two as smaller is quicker. I am pretty sure these two ways look the same in the game viewer but my bets are this one it too sensitive as well. Favoring athletic rushers.

The third is the size matchup. Yes if your blocker is smaller he’ll get into position quicker and handle the speed rush aspects ok but he’s gonna get “bull rushed” very easy. This part seems to be having an intended effect as my small linemen (even though they are strong) are getting beat in similar fashion while looking at the game viewer.

Telling the 3 apart is the hard part but all those factors are at play. Unless there is clear alignment advantages for the defense and you see the defender buzz right by the blocker who just can’t get there. Pass blocking skill does matter but if you can’t get there you might be at a disadvantage from the get go.

Another difference than prior codes...except for half of last season....is blitzes. The pickups have been tweaked and Intelligence helps decide if the blitz is picked up. I am getting even more sacks with blitzes this preseason but I am getting beat by the pass as well.

Our last game we held our opponent to -1 yard total. He could pick new plays to do a bit better but my bets are sacks will drop considerably with few tweaks here and there. When those tweaks are coming might be your only real concern.

And this is only my take and not directed at anyone. After a few games maybe some others have found good ways of stopping the high amount of sacks. For us our fast QBs with 40s every where is our best passer right now.....still we are getting sacked close to 9 times a game. I don’t really get it but man coverage is really tight and sacks are through the roof!

It should be worth following this thread to get a better understanding of what's going on.

It may be worth going through your play by play to see if their are specific plays (offense and defense) that are getting/giving up sacks.

Pre-season will skew the stats a little as well as people will try different things and you'll get mismatches with backups going against starters more than normal.

Needless to say, jdb is looking at it and working hard on getting it right. In my opinion, it's close but that final push to nail it down to the correct levels is the toughest part.

This should be the most fun and interesting season in my time playing MFN. One more pre-season week and then we go into the season where things should settle down a bit as people work out what works and what doesn't.

As an example, I have been experimenting with trying to throw the ball deep in pre-season and we've given up a mass of sacks, quite often coverage sacks where the QB has time but can't find a receiver before the OL succumbs to the pressure and someone breaks through.

I would be more concerned if players were just bull rushing straight past the OL (unabated).

In my opinion, this version will put more emphasis on the OL and DL and people may start to understand why they get such high trade values. People will also have to either play a system to suit a QB or find a QB that fits your system - I don't think it's going to be as simple as plug and play the best QB you have. This should then open the game up a little more making more styles of play viable for winning teams. Whereas after a couple of (real-life) years of 0.4.5 it tends to be the same type of teams winning season after season.

Pretty much what I thought, thanks for the write up

Yeah I'm hoping this is largely the case, lol might be a long season otherwise

I gave up 13 sacks, so I guess I'm average there. I only got 2 on my opponent though...
Can't wait for the next 3 drafts! Hope they don't ****.

Triangles had 17 sacks in my game. From the film, a lot of them my rushers just blew through the OL, especially in the second half against the backups.

Holy ****, I totally misread that.
My team actually sacked Hellfire 13 times while only giving up 2 sacks. My offensive line is pretty stout, but my best defensive lineman is a -42 by my ratings.
Hellfire's OL must have been on strike or something...

11 of hellfires sacks were on long passes. (7 were on one particular play) Lowering the dump off rate has only pushed the reason for sacks even further away from actual skill of any player. His oline may not have been good and the same for your dline but it wasn’t the main reason for such high numbers.
