Coach Contract Bug?

I'm a newbie, so please let me know if I've missed something, but I saw something strange while looking over my roster & staff on my new team (http://cust18.myfootballnow.com/team/3). I wanted to try to evaluate/change some of my position coaches.

Then I saw an odd behavior on their contract screens:
* For the coaches signed to less than one million dollars...
(i.e. positional coaches, six-figure incomes, all appear signed to a $126,000 (minimum?) contract)
* They are only available to be resigned for a contract 10x their current salary
(i.e. making $126,000 now, can only resign for $1,260,000, so an extra zero)

It's hard to tell what my actual "coach cash flow" is, but based on the bar on the contract screen, I'm guessing it's about $7,000,000. Trying to resign even a couple of position coaches this way would put the total coach contracts way over the available.

I get that if you're promoting a position coach, he's due a big raise, maybe in that range, and if he's really talented, higher salary is justified, but a 1000% raise? Doesn't add up, especially because the coaches I was looking at were the worst on my team, with rating in the 50s just for positional coaching.

Since the amount asked for is exactly one-extra-zero from the current salary, I am guessing this is a bug. Higher-paid coaches (HC/OC/DC) who are making over $1,000,000 seem to ask for salaries correctly in that screen (i.e. the same amount, or a little more)

If I can provide any other useful info to diagnose, let me know. Thanks!

Well, guess it is a bit of newbness here, as I see now that the contract value is a text box I can modify (because it looks "greyed out" I thought it was read-only before.)

So at least I can offer appropriate contracts, now, but might still argue that setting the suggested value for league-minimum coaches to over $1million is a little wild!

Which coach are you trying to re-sign? He won't accept an extension unless it matches his current first year salary, but it should allow you to enter in the amount he is currently making without telling you that it's too low. If you enter "0" into the box, you should get a warning telling you the minimum he will accept - does it not match the coach's current year's salary?

In short, it was 2 coaches... my Secondary and Kicking coaches, but they were all making the minimum $126,000. What I found was that if I manually set the contract to $126,000, all was OK, I could submit for that amount, but it was surprising that the "requested/recommended" price that pre-populated when the contract window opens, was 10x that, or $1,260,000...

Well, you can't blame them for trying! Remember that the lower their salary, the easier it will be for someone to poach them, but that's really the only disadvantage to offering them the minimum that they will accept. The default is based on what the engine believes is a fair value for that coach's position, but the economics of the league may be far away from that.

This seems to be the default for all position coaches. The coach page shows the current salary at 126,000 which is what I can renew for if I put it in manually but they all ask for 1,260,000. This has to be a bug. Some owners will not realise this and offer the higher amount. This will lead to a very unbalanced wage structure for coaches. My current coach contracts amount to just under 7m according to the coach page although this doesn't equal the total of the individual coach contracts.

If I gave 1,260,000 to all my backfield coaches the amount I would pay for total coach contracts would be over 17.5 million.

The requests used to be more market-driven, now they are a percentage of the head coach market. The reason I changed it is because the position coach salaries actually stared exceeding the head coach salaries when it was based on the market values and got out of hand; while in this case it would start with low values, in another league it might start with values that exceed the higher-tiered coaches.

So should they be on 50% of the HC salary at 1.26m or 5% at 126k? 5% seems very low to me.

126k is the minimum you can offer - if a coach is not that great, you can sign him for that, but remember that if you want to keep him around he's got a good chance of getting poached if he's only making that much (unless he's just not that great of a coach). Like any other economic decision, it's all really just a matter of how valuable you think the coach is.
