Just had one of my own.
We punt to their 1 yd line, 2 plays later with no gain from the other play, we make a tackle for -2 yds and no safety given?

Sorry my bad - http://cust12.myfootballnow.com/watch/294#63085

When I watch games, I watch them from quite a wide angle and didn't see that the ball is actually spotted at about 1.5, so the call was at the 1, but actually its more like 1.5, but then the tackle for loss is -2, so confusingly this must also be a loss of 1.5 and not 2 *scratches head*

Guess; rounding error.

Ball at 1.5; so listed as 2nd and whatever at 1 yd line.
Tackle for loss of say 1.25 yds; rounded up to be a loss of -2?

Its a bit confusing (and annoying) when you think you've got the break you need only to have it taken away. I wish that these down markings were more accurate.

Where the down is spotted should always be the driver. The play result should be as accurate as possible within reason.

Where the ball is spotted on the 1.5 yd line, listed as 1 yd line with the play claiming to lose 2 yards - you think safety.

If the ball was at the 1.5yd line then list it as that. If the play lost 1.25 yards either list it as so or round the loss down to 1 yd. Rounding down would lead to less confusion - you'd obviously not think loss of a yard then on the 1.5 could ever be a safety.

That's a good guess with the rounding, and was my first thought as well, although it would be tough for a rounding error to give that result - it does round to the nearest, so 1.25 rounds to 1.

What _did_ happen is actually a known bug that has been fixed in version 0.3 - the game correctly gives the runner forward progress, but the play-by-play calls it as down where the play actually stopped. This has been fixed but I didn't back-port it into 0.2.2.

I see nothing wrong in general because of forward progress or rounding but the placement of the ball after the original tackle for loss is off. Basing this off of the blue line of scrimmage without forward progress. The ball is 11 inches long, the closest it can be placed is like at the 0.3 yard line about the same width as the neutral zone on any given play. Any stop closer than that would be a safety, because a part of the ball would be on the goaline.
