Rotational backfield

Since the other topic got deleted in community forum, I figured I could as well post something similar in this forum, as that's really the general turn the topic took before getting removed.

@jdb: Would it be possible to have some way to exclude the FB from rushing the ball?

Say I wanted a true committee and have 3 RB and a FB. I want my FB to block and my RB's to just always be freshest legs on the field. If I could tick a box saying "don't allow FB to rush out of FB rush plays" or something like that, I could just put the slider to 0 and it would be a true committee of freshness.

That's where you're encountering your problem with the FB getting in for carries. I've never come across this issue before. You have a limited # of rushers and are putting the fatigue slider to a level where each rush brings in a new rusher to the equation. It's filtering them out and then throwing your FB into the mix.

I also think you're pretty much the only person initiating this strategy, putting the sim into this position. You've got an interesting concept. Throw more RBs at the position to account for the constant rotation.

You could be onto something and you'd be revolutionary but you have to be prepared to work your strategy; build upon it and not blame the sim engine.

If you set a fatigue bar to zero and it cycles through your 3 man RB set-up it's going to look outside the position. JDB's not going to set up a structure where it x's out all positions but RBs being set to rush/run. You need to do the leg work and figure out where to put the fatigue slider so that the FB doesn't appear or to toss more RBs at the position.

Refinement of a strategy.

I use a rotation system on teams where I dont have a stud RB or their durability is in question. I use the override and the only time a FB gets in is if I only have two RB's active that day and one gets injured or if I want him to run on certain plays. I haven't run across anything unusual.

Double ck your overrides (which you prolly already have)
Make sure those plays being run aren't designed for the FB (easy to over look)
Double ck the fatigue to make sure it isn't too low
Double ck your rule (if you use em) to make sure that is not forcing something you dont want.

Other than that you can activate a 3rd RB and use him on special teams. He can then absorb a carry or two if the other two are getting worn out or injured.

I use rotational RBs for most of my teams. I keep the sliders in the low 30s and put in overrides. I usually wind up with 6-7 players rushing, one or two unsuccessfully for a couple throwaway plays. I find fresh legs are often better than perfect but tired legs. I don't get into PotW much that way, but that's fluff.

I'm also completely OCD about my depth charts.

I refer to that as the "Burn-Out."

If you got one of your game pulled up in the viewer and the opponent is mashing with 1 primary runner as long as you have a stout defense/structure forcing him to hit into brick running walls....you're going to win the game.

You burn out the back, he's rendered useless and your team propels for the win.

Yeah I'm not saying I'm actually running the slider at zero, just that it maybe should be an option if you were completely indifferent to which RB got the rush.

I just don't want my FB to run the ball. He's to block or catch. I'll put in FB rushes if I want him to rush.

I've played with the slider for two seasons now and some games, it's just my RB's running while others (at the same setting) my FB gets an equal share of the rushes. That's in the low-mid-thirties.

I'm simply suggesting a way to say "However we do this, I'll choose the play if I want my FB to run the ball."

He's not in the RB part of the depth chart, he shouldn't run the ball, unless it's a designated FB rush (or WR Jet Sweep, if that was to ever be implemented)

You've got to up the fatigue because the sim engine is looking outside the position once the runners in your RB section of the depth chart are under your fatigue requirement.

Either up the fatigue level a bit and adjust to see if the FB carries go away or toss another RB or two into the RB section of the depth chart.

Lets say you close off FBs from being an option as an runner/RB then it'll move on to another position on your depth chart to slide in.

It's refinements and adjustments.

You've got an interesting idea/approach that could differentiate and do damage. Now just enhance it.

Holy cow. That thread did vanish. What the actual ****? Maybe I should reconsider offering my thoughts. BONKERS! Serious what the ****. That ended up a very tasty thread, and now it is gone.
Sigh. OK, so maybe their is a mysterious forum admin, if so, what a freaking mistake to delete that.
Maybe it's because Duval went toxic - that said, deleting a user on forums deletes their posts.
Just. Weird. Shocked. Was it something we said? Are we not allowed to throw out some things that work for us in hopes of providing ides?
Crazy. :P
