Re: 'Trade Score' Values Skewed and need fixing (Newbies beware!)

An owner walks into a store and sees an item he likes. He then asks the shop keeper how much that item costs, to which the keeper replies. The owner then
A) decides that the item is over priced and thanks the shop keeper for his time without purchasing
B) decides that the item is over priced and purchases the item because he thinks he needs it now and no one else has it
C) decides that the item is a fair or below market value trade and purchases the item.

i am going to continue this thread from another point of view based on things i have been seeing very recently and i am hoping that JDB will pay close attention here.

Question:

What is the purpose of the Draft and draft/order? What is the reason it was implemented professionally?

Take a moment to think before you scroll down, Think, think. Don't scroll yet.

Got your answer?

OK here it is:

Answer:

To promote FAIR COMPETITION. That is, the draft was employed to help poorer teams get the better talent so they can catch up and be competitive with the dynasties.

All agreed?

Hope so.

So what is fair about the top teams in many leagues having 4 or 5 first round draft choices - ALL ahead of the teams they are already much better than???

i just saw a trade in one league that is going to cement the beneficiary's Championship Status for the next ten seasons most likely.

Now - i am not one of those people who complain about cheating, nor will i do any myself. As an aside, i was once in an online racing game where, by the 5th season, virtually everybody was using a host of available cheats to win - i never used any and accepted my losing graciously.

i am here to have fun, help test and improve the BETA, and support the game - for as long as it is interesting. If it just so happens that 2 or 3 guys win all the league championships and i never have the chance i will not complain, but Mr. Baker, they are ruining your game and going to chase away all your clientele.

For the record, they are not actually cheating - the game allows it.

But it is easily fixed.

Good Luck.

My opinion. If you have a problem with upper echelon teams having picks in the early rounds while you are not, then you should have lost more games......making it more competitive for weaker teams to gain confidence.

The Patriots have not had a top 16 draft pick since 2003, and have not picked in the top 10 positions since 2001. In fact, they have drafted in position 24 and above, spots normally for playoff teams, 14 times since 2001 (16 years) And yet, one cannot argue with the success they have had.

The Tennessee Titans finished with a 9-7 record last season. The Titans had the 10th best win - loss record in the NFL, and they picked in the top 5 in this years draft.

So, by all the crybabies who are whining about the draft's logic....The Patriots should be picking sometimes in the top ten and the Titans should not have picked in the top 5 to make it fair.

Here's your participation trophy.

The NFL allows it also. There are no restrictions about which teams are allowed to trade for picks that might (or already are) be high picks.

Is a perennial loser not allowed to try to improve their team by trading their pick for players? They MUST draft a player?

Or are they only allowed to trade to other bottom dwellers, who may not even be able offer something team A wants in the first place?

What if I have a good team, and I make a trade where I get someone's first back in return, but that first is not until 3 years from now? Did I do something wrong?

What if that team ends up going down the tubes and I end up with the #1 pick. Did I do something wrong now?

I don't think so.

You are right that the Draft is set up to try to help the worst teams the most by allowing them the first pick of Talent.

The thing is... it's of ALL Talent, not just the Draft Talent. If you can use a 1st Round Pick to acquire a 5 Year Vet All-Pro... you just helped your Team become more Talented, no? Can we agree on that?

If the idea is that the Draft Pick is to Acquire Talent to Improve the Roster, you shouldn't have to limit yourself to only the Talent available in the Draft. If you can use that Pick to acquire a Developed Talent, that shouldn't be an issue.

I think this thread got off topic quickly.

The "original" topic of this thread was that the trade meter is broken causing new people who rely too much on it's imbalanced ratings to accept wildly unfair trades which throws off any chance at parity.

I'm not sure anyone actually thinks that a top team shouldn't be able to trade up into the early part of the draft. Right now, tho, it's too easy, especially when the trade meter devalues draft picks and overvalues older skilled players. Add in the fact that newer players are guilty of getting fleeced more often than not, and it becomes a problem as the new players may get discouraged and quit.

The trade meter shouldn't be (nor can it in my opinion) a perfect system giving accurate values of players and picks. I do think that age should have more weight in lowering the trade score (based on position), and draft picks, especially early ones should be valued more.

edit: just realized how old this thread is.....LOL

Thanks for bumping it. Fixing trade values should be the #1 priority for improving this game and increasing the player base.

That is no doubt. And a ton of effort has been into devaluing speed to match defaults . My first draft we landed a elite defender at pick 1.7. Couldn't cover when he was young so I kept him as an edge rusher. He was an immediate impact player on a team with the highest default player being a 77 rated 79 speed DB.

I don't know the complete draft direction we went but we were weak everywhere and in the 5th round we selected a 38 speed 85 acceleration high volatility ILB who boomed. The seasons passed and I lost every game to division rival owner ares . ....expecting this LB to live up to his near 80 default final product but it never happened .

The game is the same now ....you play until you become aware defaults are off. I bet some left them too but the trade scores and many other parts of the game don't line up with the discrepancies in player speed.

Any AI roster decision from draft to depth chart uses the same values to score them same as the trade scores .

Making the game play like the defaults has been the goal . As defaults haven't changed but speed is a bit less valuable than years ago, because of changes in the engine .

Fixing the value of player speed would fix alot of areas in the game.
