Re: Opinion of You

JDB, can you please confirm the reasons a player's "opinion" will decrease (while they are on your roster).

My understanding is that it is only because of 2 reasons:
    1. Not enough playing time.

How much playing time do they need? Is it a set number of plays? Is it the same for all players?

    2. Position on the depth chart.

I understand this as position in the depth chart, not whether the player starts or not. Is this correct?
Let's say I have my regular depth chart for linebackers set the same for each position (SLB/MLB/WLB). EX: LB Smith is #1 at all 3 positions, LB Jones is #2, LB Doe is #3, etc.
Would this mean that all but one of these players are going to become unhappy because they aren't #1 on the depth chart?
Do position overrides have any impact on a player's opinion?

Now that this is actually having an impact, I'd like to understand it better so I can manage it effectively.

Thanks

That's correct - essentially they want to start, and if not start, at least play. The better of a player they are, the quicker they will become unhappy.

You should only really see unhappy players if you either just have too many good players to get them all on the field, or if you are intentionally not putting your best players on the field. Resting your starters for one or two games at the end of the season should not have a significant impact, but if you spend much more time than that with playing your scrubs you will probably start to irritate your starters. The goal is to make it a bit harder to keep a superteam together (as it is in the NFL), as well as to incentivise you playing your best team even when there's nothing to play for.

Also, cutting and trading players will make them unhappy with you. No more cutting your star player in the middle of the season and re-signing him at min-sal because no one noticed him on the FA block.

Thanks.

Can I assume "better" is based on current rating and not future? I don't want my rookie 1st round pick getting mad because he's playing backup until he learns the position.

Also, it that rating based on our weights, or the default weights?

If default, are we ever going to be able to see these weights? I think this is important if a player's unhappiness is going to be determined by these. I may be playing the best players, but the AI weighting says I'm not, so all of sudden my bench is mad at me.

One statistical example would be this experience in 75. Using default ratings a 68 rated wr got unhappy in 4 games when a 56 rated guy was starting and the team was losing. I was bothered by the 68's tude so figured to NOT start him anyway, but give him MORE snaps.

And when i say starting the 56 was # 2 on the depth chart and still is now , but a switch in playing time occured.

Snap counts were like 60 to 30.

56 rated wr to 68 rated wr.

Adjusting snap counts ,not who was starting, brought the 68 back to normal in one game. The 68 WR had 60 snaps and the 54 started at WR #2 but i limited his play through overides and play choice.

Still, allowing my WR #1 to get most snaps, the WR #3 to get the next most and then WR #2 to still be higher than WR #4's snaps. The way i wanted it in the first place.

I originally wanted the better overall WR to play the slot, and sub in for WR #1 and WR #2 in the red zone, but my team rarely got there.

Combining strageties not only helped my team, but got his attitude better. My logic to stretch the field with the 56 rated but faster WR was counter productive as experienced DBs caused many problems though that faster WR had a beat at times, as low route and hands caused these incompletions.

Now, We still go deep and the WR #3 is the better blocker out of the slot, but overall play we seem more fluid as offense with only slight adjustments.

On the other hand, one could say his pissed off teammate, the 66, is screaming at the coach to" give me the **** ball" then as the coach I listened and it paid off. ...cause if not that guy is going on the trade block .

Or my team just matched up well.. ......

Still, i loved the imaginary storyline it made for me. In other words one of my first experiences with this new feature was awesome to say the least.

I felt numerically wise it matched my imaginary effort put in. Even was almost a clue to my passing woes?

Overall I like this feature, but I hate all the guessing that is involved in trying to figure out what is going on and why.

IRL a player will tell you why he's upset, if not to your face then probably on twitter!

I have a rookie second round pick who is currently 'Very Unhappy' with me. Presumably because he's buried in the depth chart, but he's currently terrible compared to my starters. So it doesn't appear to be that way.

It is based on his current rating, not his future potential.

I know this is not your case, but say a team kept drafting and holding on to top rated talented WRs, some WRs are going to get mad. Say the guy is as good as he is then he will play.

In other words he should be at a place where he will play. A rook has four years to figure that out. He may be unhappy today, but this does not effect play just his resigns. He s not resigning now anyway, but at Year 4 hes WR #4 rated 89 and still livid then maybe i would be worried about resigning them. At that point he has a gripe if the snaps are not there.

He could be pissed now but ok when restructures come around. They are all like Terrell Owens very vocal, but change thier minds quick. Its like injuries i would not pay attention to them if i feel the situation will benefit otherwise.

I sat legit round one WR in 22 all season. I was gearing up to see how a mobile QB would perform in a spread offense. He was young too. I sat them both as it was the old engine and i thought this was my best chance anyway in a running offense. Made the playoffs and lost.

The next season was on the new engine and i left stuff the same till my 1st preseason game. That WR was unhappy, but under the new scheme he quickly reverted to happy as the true #1, not WR#3 or #4 as i had him last season.

I like the balance, but never had any trouble actually resigning anyone yet.........

This is true - a player's opinion does not impact his growth or his play on the field, only whether he will (re-)sign with you when you attempt to offer a contract to him.

ridiculous ...

its now 2024 LFA 2of3 .. player I released just before training camp last year (and didn't resign anywhere else) is apparently still pissed at me ... REALLY?

Please consider changing this feature to making these players reconsider your offer after 3 sims ...
