Best def for 1 Rb 1TE 2 WR set

I'm noticing a lot of coaches using the 1rb 1te 3wr set and I'm wondering what is the best defense for this set?

I'm leaning towards nickel as, the dime and quarter gets eaten up when opponents run out of this set.

Depends on what the teams forte is, passing or rushing.

Personally if it were me on a basic D, I'd call 3-4, you still need to be able to pressure the O-line and QB, if you give them too much time they will nearly always hit the open receiver. However if you play a nickel or dime D, any half decent back will slice through your D line, unless you're doubling up on him.

Also you need to play what works for your team best, if you flat out can't play a certain style, then stick with what works best. You might want to check out your D players and see which plays they know if you really want to get technical ;)

That's the crux of it for me, and it depends on your personnel. Based on your defensive players, is it better to have a RB running against 3CBs, or is it better for a safety, or potentially a linebacker to be matched up with a receiver?

Depends on your opponents tendencies as to which is more likely to happen, and on the skills of your players which you're better suited to handle, that's what I'd go with.

There is no right answer to that question. A 3-4 can stop that just as well as a 4-3 or -4-4-6 or any of defense, its all about what the players assignment is that is more important.

A 1 RB 1 TE 2 WR is the most basic of all football formations, a case can be made for all of the defenses being the best.

PERSONALLY, If your're playing man in any D, a SS is the answer, period.

This.

The best overall defensive philosophy in this sim in my opinion is a single high, heavy blitzing man-to-man. This requires you to have at bare minimum of four defensive backs that can run and play good M2M -- CB1, CB2, CB3, and SS1 -- and a FS that can run and play good zone. Ideally, your CB1, CB2, and SS1 should have good run defense in addition to good man-to-man so that they can shed and tackle. This defense allows your team to match up against running and passing teams that run out of a spread.

My favorite overall defensive set for this sim is the 46 Heavy, but there simply are not enough players to build a whole defense around. Still, I usually incorporate as many 46 Heavy plays as I can in my defensive playbook.

Very interesting read, thanks for taking the time to put your opinion up. I was recently asking a few people in our league about which is more valuable, an elite CB or an elite SS. From what I'm hearing, and my interpretation of the above, I'm going with the latter

IMO, a SS has more ground to cover and typically they need to be better at tackling and playing the run. Especially if you consider how heavily this game is tilted towards running inside. You just can't really find very athletic offensive linemen without converting them from TEs or FBs, or using high draft picks on offensive line.

I'm going to call BS on this. I find many OL that have high AC, decent ST, and good pass block, and that's usually what you need as long you have a QB that make a quick decision or scramble a little bit. The high AC and ST will help in the run game regardless of a player's run blocking skills.

Yeah I'm thinking more along the lines of speed, not sure if speed really matters a great deal for pulling though.
