Just my 2 cents: The last major change has been nearly 3 1/2 years ago - 0.45 to 0.46. Since then nothing really significant happened. Despite this lack of maintenance I stayed because I like the game as it is, the great community and it was free except some minor donations mainly to avoid ads and customize my teams a little bit.
But I'm not going to pay for a game where you can't recognize significant maintenance and evolution. So I am tending to leave when my legacy credits are gone, if there is no further movement.

As far as pricing goes I don't think there's a huge issue at the low end. $2.50 a month for a single team and no ads is a little on the high side of reasonable but is not outrageous. Pro Pack at $8.33 a month on the other hand is priced too high for the value provided to a single team owner, as they are essentially paying $8.33 a month just to be able to change their team name, logo, helmet, and player names in the off-season, and will get ads to boot. In order for a single team owner to get customization and remove ads they have to pay for the high-tier MVP Club subscription at $12.50 a month. That's $8.33 for customization and $4.17 to get rid of ads.
There's just not enough value in customization to warrant the $8.33 a month price tag, and $2.50 was already a bit high for the removal of ads.

My suggested solution for single team owners is to add team and player customization to the $2.50 tier. Call it $2 a month to get rid of the ads and $0.50 a month for the small amount of customization a single team owner does.

I do not play multiple leagues, or manage a league so I can't put a price on what I would find reasonable for access to that functionality and additional customization. Others will have to provide input there.

Full disclosure: I am currently subbed at the Pro Pack tier as a single team owner. I did this because I wanted access to the player customization and use an ad blocker. I figure part of the price in Legacy Credits that I'm paying is for the ability to block ads as I am not using the multiple league functionality. I would not continue subscribing at my present level if I didn't have those Legacy Credits to use up.

I'm with setherick. The game is bad and buggy enough that I've quit several times despite being completely free. I support a subscription-based model, but JDB has a proven track record: I have no faith that this will ever be worth paying for. Even the rollout is typical JDB: No warning, and a structure/price that's as much of a head-scratcher as the default special teams units. Combine all of this with the poor server times and malicious ads, and it's almost as if JDB is intentionally driving people away so he can justify shutting the whole thing down.

A bit harsh but I agree with you that the product is just not to the stage where you can start charging for it.

That's unreasonable. It's good enough for you, or me to sink a good number of hours into playing. It took a significant amount of effort to get it to this point, and as much as veterans (including myself) have complained at the stall in ongoing development, it is still the best multiplayer, private league, football management game available.

That subscriptions have been introduced without any kind of sweetener to the people expected to pay those subscriptions is the misstep here. A misstep that speaks to JDB not being a marketing or publishing guy, but that's the only criticism I have.

The game is very good, but for veteran players it's in desperate need of a change or evolution in the meta to keep it feeling fresh.

Is it worth the subscription? Yes. I've prepaid a year at max level because even if it folds tomorrow it was still worth the enjoyment I've had from it. Do I expect max level to deliver more? Absolutely. It's very expensive for what it represents right now, but I'm happy to wait until the dust settles to find out what the convincer will be.

To say that the launch of subs has been misguided is fair. To say it's not worth paying for is not.

Fellow GM's,

You can still play this game for free. No reason to kick the ground and pout telling the world I don't wanna play. Cause not only do I want to play for free, but i want no ads, I want customization, I want to make leagues and I want to play in as many leagues as I want.......yes for free. Hmmm

Look..... the fact that yall are even responding in this thread shows you have a some sort of passion for this game. There are plenty of options for us here...

Yes this game needs some work and the concerns are real. But I'm hopeful we'll see it progress from here. But even as it is right now, it's still pretty **** enjoyable. We make friends and catch a break from the nonsense that goes on in the RL world.

So go play for free or donate the amount of money you feel comfortable with and let's see what happens. There are no guarantees. Life isn't a given.

Go getcha some football.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and there is no right or wrong opinion, just personal views based on each individuals thoughts about the new subscription model.

My only concern centers on the actual user base, how many owners will leave and how many owners with multiple teams will drop down to 1 team.

As a league administrator of 2 leagues in season 32 & 33, I have a pretty good grasp on how difficult it is to keep league's full with a limited user base. Every off-season leaves open teams even in the best leagues and then you have to actively recruit from a limited pool of owners to refill the league.

The #1 recruiting tool for Admins is to check owners in other leagues and to invite them into your league. I try to retain owners & recruit owners by offering extra content so while turnover isn't big...it still happens!

I've created polls in both my leagues and its beginning to look like I'm gonna lose around 20-25% of the owners in my league. In time, my leagues may fill out again but it feels like it will be at the cost of other leagues.

It's my opinion that the subscription model should have been talked about before being implemented and ideally it should have been scheduled after the introduction of the new user interface. Simply going to a paid subscription model with no new updates feels forced.

I have no problem paying to play but the truth of the matter is I already paid to play and for the next 6 months MFN will get no extra money from me even though I have the top tier subscription since I have a ton of credits which I already purchased and they will be used up before I have to pay again. By that time I would have bought more credits anyway since I rename all my draft picks.

I love MFN but I'm concerned this will destroy established leagues. I hope I'm wrong

That's one part I am worried about, if I do pay to play the game and make it enjoyable how many other users will remain. Will leagues still be as exciting or will they be totally dead? I feel like right now it's too much of a gamble to pay, cause if I do pay and it all dies down then it's money wasted. I guess I'll see where the future takes it but as of now I have no problem just playing Pigskin Empire.

Just a thought here, and I'm not sure about the particulars as to how hard it would be or anything like that, and just spitballing here.

I was wondering if maybe make it so RO leagues are free and you can be in one other league for free. After that, if you would like to join another league, then it would be $2 per team per season (the suggested prices are just an example). If you would like to make changes to your team it would be $1 per change. If you would like to run a league it would be $15 per league per season and you would be able to make all the changes you want or need to in that league. Or you would have the option of buying one of the subs. and make all subs. annual. The subs options would be something along the lines of 1)being able to own as any teams as you want for that year, 2)option 1 plus being able to make all the changes you want to your team, 3) options 1 and two plus being able to run as many leagues as you want. I think this format would give more options to the owners and you would cover a wide variety options for the players as to what they can do or pay as they can based on their income. I know I for one have good weeks/months, and bad ones.

This is just a suggestion in response to the new sub format as well to all the complaints.

Hang on, I run two leagues , one I took over to just keep it going , which I’ve done .
So by your rules I’d be paying $30 for the privilege of running a league ? Seems a little backward. If anything I would like a credit(s) to run them .
I only run leagues because I know I’m always active and provide a league where players know that it’s properly and fairly run without fear the league owner isn’t about to go awol.

Not having a pop at you , but terrible idea .
