The talent levels may be misleading. Depending on how you set your weights, the overall grade of your players could vary greatly making them appear to be weaker than they actually are.

Worth remembering Bexus, that that League (which I admin) is barely out of infancy, just reaching the end of it's third season. A lot of rosters were built 'youth first' and the teams are just starting to take shape. Take your time and don't rush into a rebuild that may not be necessary. Basically, I'm saying, most of the franchises have weakspots and bouncing from also-ran to playoffs in 1 or 2 seasons is possible if you have a good free agency, trade well and get lucky in the draft lottery.

I know from experience that it is all too easy to smash a team to bits and then found out the rebuild is a long and winding road.

With regards the Opening post. Your Head Coach is very important (my opinion) - the others, not so much.

Each has different playbooks dependant on Coaching style. Some plays are on some coaches list but not others. Someone who has been here longer than me can let you know whether Coaches 'adopt' more plays with experience ie a Coach in his 40's might have a 80-100 plays whilst a Coach in his 60's might have 140+ plays in his arsenal. IF it doesn't work this way I think it should (with assistants learning new plays as they develop).

What I also find is a good Head Coach has game management skills and tends to control the clock better. whereas a 'less experienced/poor' coach will just burn time outs at the first opportunity and call inside run plays with 30 seconds on the clock. Yes this can be over-ruled largely with clever use of rules.

Final point is I believe (and could be way off here) that there are hidden attributes for both players and coaches. One of those I think for coaches is Volatility/Aggressiveness with some Coaches prefering to make conservative calls, whilst others have no concept of risk.

I also think that to make Coaches more relevant, the position coaches should grade players for the draft. With better Coaches having a more accurate reference point then poor/inexperienced Coaches. You Offensive Co-ordinator should be able to grade all Offensive players in the draft, your Defensive Co-ordinator all defensive players with the Head Coach having an opinion on every player. Giving you 3 different perspectives of a player based on their particular Coaching style eg a pass focused O-line Coach may prioritise players with pass blocking ability over run blocking, whereas the Head Coach might want to run the ball more and prefer players who can run block etc Perhaps even having a position coach put forward a list of players they would like you to draft

I use to worry about having the highest rated coaches at every position and poached coaches from others to assure I had the best coaching staff available.

To be honest, I find it really doesnt matter who the coaches are as long as the head coach has the plays I want. I lost my head coach to retirement in a league I had won titles in and just hired the youngest unemployed coach with the same playbook as the one who retired. He was 37 years old and rated 59 overall. We went 15-1 and lost the Conference Championship game by 7 points.

Sure maybe an older, higher rated coach might have made a difference but the team wasnt far from winning it all.

As for hoping the A.I. makes good time management decisions is a recipe for disaster. The key to great gameplanning is using proper time management rules so the A.I. doesnt hijack the game.

I just wanted the OP to understand that the overall ratings are subjective and its possible that these teams he keeps beating might actually not be "better" than his. I haven't actually looked at the rosters in question though, and I have no idea how his weights are set.

Yeah I agree, until you lock in your own player weights and move away from the default ratings.....a team may appear talented with plenty 80+ rated players that until cust weights fall through the floor.

Of course, this is all just my personal opinion and everyone is entitled to their own.

Roster management is still very important in this game especially when two closely matched owners meet.

My opinion is just based on playing in many different leagues and playing against owners a multitude of times. I can usually look at the owners in the league without looking at any rosters and predict quite accurately who the top teams will be.

There are certain owners that win all the time and usually compete for league titles regularly in every league they are in.

That's the rationale for my creation of the Champions League....a league where only owners who have previously won a Championship in another league compete against one another. In a case like that, roster management is increasingly important as the gameplanning skills of the owners are all high end.

Like was stated previously, custom player weights make it difficult to compare rosters because they can be quite different. Just take quarterback for example, what are the top attributes under each owners weights? What is the order of importance?

1. Pass accuracy
2. intelligence
7. Arm strength
3. field of vision
8.Pass release
4. look off defense
5. Speed
6. scramble
10.Hard count
9. Avoid fumble
11. Discipline

I finally looked at his league, team and opponents and I'm a little confused.

His team is Cincinnati and this is his 2nd season as owner. The 1st season he went 0-16 and year two, he is 3-1.

He lost his first game to a good team in Carolina who went 9-6-1 the previous season and Is 4-0 in the current season.

He won the next 3 games against:

Tennessee who is owned by Punisher who has had 15 straight losing seasons.

New Orleans who has a new owner this season after 3 seasons of AI ownership and has 8 straight losing seasons.

Pittsburgh who has a new owner this season after the previous owner went 16-30-2 the previous 3 seasons.

He hasnt beat anyone with a history of winning in the recent past, 2 teams have 1st year owners and Punisher owns over 60 teams and cant possibly have the time to properly gameplan for every league he is in.

The answer is simple, he drafted an elite rookie QB who is developing nicely and has a couple +90 speed WRs along with a nice TE and 3rd possession type reciever to throw to. That coupled with a last place schedule should make for a decent season.

The shocker would be if he starts beating Setherick, Infinity, warthog or MWD but none of them are on his schedule so he may make the playoffs before meeting one of them.

Great draft pick and the team could be a force with a couple more nice additions in the future.

I look at my top 5 as a package deal, though pass accuracy is #1. When evaluating QB's, I add up the 5 ratings and rank them that way, the rest of the attributes are just tiebreakers.

1) Pass Accuracy
1a) Arm Strength
1b) Pass Release
1c) Field of vision
1d) Look off defense

Some people swear QB's need intelligence, and maybe they do but I've won a championship with Stephan Labelle, who has 15 intelligence and thinks the Wonderlic Test has something to do with licking suckers. He was also slower than Peyton Manning (11 speed). I do look at scramble ability and avoid fumble, but I mainly concentrate on the big 5.

I said master game planners...2 completely different things.

@CJ - that's an entirely valid comment. A master gameplanner will punch above their weight, but for the majority of owners a top tier roster will be sufficient to ensure post-season play, at which point gameplanning becomes a tie-breaker.
