coach hiring

Why is it that a coach has to have a promotion to be hired away from another team?
if you offer a better contract shouldn't you be able to hire one for the same position?
it seems otherwise you have to settle for just the unemployed coaches.

Because that’s pretty much how it works in the NFL. In the NFL, teams have to ask permission from other teams to interview one of their coaches for a position. That is mostly only granted if the position would be a promotion for that coach.

There are exceptions, but they’re rare and usually occur when a head coach retires - the staff not interviewed for the position of head coach are often allowed to go seek jobs since there’s no guarantee they will have one with the new coach.

Because in real life either be high school , college or PRO football leagues coaches rather move up in coaching or the coaching ladder versus only being in the same coaching position for their whole careers.

well you could get a coach if you offer a better contract (more years and more money) for that coach though not at same position

well nothing wrong with settling for a unemployed coach because there has been coaches that were hired that way and won a title in their profession (Steve Fisher for Basketball , **** Vermeil for Football , etc.) though there has been disasters (Jon Gruden for Football so far though that could turn around knowing he has like another 5 years on his contract)

...except unemployed coaches are typically in the 60 and 70 rated stratospheres, at best.

Or everyone fighting over the 2-3 coaches higher up whom are available for some reason.

Oh, by the way, I think the system is good - as is.

The less vulnerability to the poaching, the better.

Although, I made your point didn't I, Phareux. I agree with you in that it sucks when a coach is swiped we're left with going the unemployed route, which results in... (see the post above)

when one of my position coaches gets poached, I tend to look for the youngest coach with an okay-ish rating I can find. It takes a couple of years, but I find they develop over time,

I wondered about that, I looked at them and thought "why would anyone ever change coaches?"

Well I guess part of what drives the coaching carousel is coaches retiring. We’ll definitely see some more coaching changes in the roster-only leagues though - I know in the one I’m in after the inaugural draft I got stuck with a guy who takes his inspiration for his offense from Ben McAdoo. Most points we scored in a game so far this year was 21. Its week 12 or 13.
