another way to stop this is to not allow people to join other leagues free if they leave just because they had a bad season. or limit the amount of times they can?

how about chances to earn credits? i know most online games are cheap to play but what about us old timers living on a fixed income, not to mention the dislike of technology and paying for stuff online. i don't even know how and i don't have a credit card, only saying

For setherick's idea on making the spots in the player created leagues 6 credits for every renewal:

If that happens, I'm either dropping the NCAA league (which is my favorite at the moment) or dropping all the others I'm in and buying credits in bulk unless the other leagues are not going to cost 5 credits any more.

Yes, yes, I'm cheap. I know this. lol. I have all ad-blockers disabled on this site as a way of supporting JDB (which I can only assume helps a little).

Side note: I try to keep ad-blockers off on all sites unless they get in my face or play audio.

Yeah, cust leagues re getting sparser.

IMO, its due to the growth of private leagues. Customizing is cool, but I think a lot of people have joined too many leagues; as they contract then the spaces become available. A partly competitive league is dull.

Possible solutions?

1. Dynamically contract and expand CUST leagues as required

CUST-XX has 10 spots. Those spots haven't been filled in over half a season. Develop a system where that league gets merged into another Cust league with enough spots. Maybe flag the league up for closure - prevent new owners registering for that league.

There would be a fair amount of housekeeping to take place - preserving history somehow, problems of importing places from CUST-OLD to CUST-NEW.

What this could do if implemented well is scale the number of leagues as required.

2. Simplify the game mode for CUST leagues

The game already plays differently based around league type. MFN-1 is obviously cutting edge, for those experimental souls. CUST allows customisation. So why not go the whole hog and really categorise them better?

Make the Cust leagues "simpler" - but which I mean cut a lot of the intracacies involved, use a simpler interface, game engine ( or more accurately, the parameters an owner can affect that feed into the game engine ). This could potentially retain more casual players.

Custom Leagues are EXACTLY the same as Standard Leagues in terms of gameplay.

The ONLY differences between these two league types are the City/Team/Stadium names, the uniform colors and the team image.

The only reason to prefer a standard league is because you like the traditional cosmetic details better, and the only reason to prefer a custom league is because you prefer something less traditional (or actually want to set these cosmetic details yourself).

A lot of comments I have read lead me to believe that some people actually think there are differences between the two types of leagues that are more than just purely cosmetic.

There aren't.

My point was to change the gameplay between Cust etc.

Make a clearer delineation in the league - allow a "simpler" game for those who are more casual players, have a more complex game for those "hardcore" players.

Difficult to do, sure...

If combining custom leagues were done, I would hope the two leagues would be split by conference.

I hadn't thought of merging half-empty leagues, I had originally planned it where a league that is below 50% would get deleted after a certain time (I think it was either 2 or 4 weeks) but it's not implemented. I'm not sure whether merging them would be best, you do have some wacky history you'd have to account for if you do that.

I am still seriously considering creating a simple league (no game planning, just roster building) but would not convert an existing league.

If that 2 weeks or 4 weeks is when you will delete a league then really Custom 14 is the perfect candidate to do this to

Custom 14 = https://cust14.myfootballnow.com/

it has 13 players and it is on free agency 4 of 5

the end of the season was 9-28-2017 because on 9-27-2018 i did the congrats to League Champion ( https://cust14.myfootballnow.com/forums/1/470?page=1#676 ) and it has been 46 days it has been stuck like that and i think Custom 14 is on the same schedule as MFN 11 so it should be in the regular season week 9 game like MFN 11 is.

Knowing that 2 weeks is 14 days or 4 weeks is 28 days then really it has beat with 46 days which would be 6 weeks (42 days) and 4 days (3 more days and it would be the 7th week)

Best idea yet. Also make them available to 'create' league with custom options..... perleeeeaasse
