It's a good game that suffers and atrophies from a lack of interest and participation by its designer. Nevertheless, those who play it are very passionate about it. Lots of statistical results.

The draft class will start being released at the end of the regular season starting with version 0.2.2 (any leagues still in 0.2.1 will roll over at the end of the season - the footer in your league tells you which version your league is running) which at least gives you the opportunity to scout out the draft during the playoffs.

There have been several ideas tossed around about the draft, from releasing the draft even earlier and applying an error to the numbers that gradually reduces as the season goes on, to some interesting ideas about hiring a scout and each scout having strengths and weaknesses that apply to your views of the draft class. I haven't really latched on to any idea yet, but am always interested to hear what you think would make the game better.

One thing I don't want to do is give incentive to tank your team in hopes of getting a stud player in the draft. As it is now, you can certainly tank your team easily enough, but the odds of that paying off is pretty slim. If you know ahead of time that there's a stud QB in the draft, there may be just as much competition for the 1.1 selection as there is for the league championship!

You have some interesting ideas about the prospects and the possibility of them not going into the draft - which could come into play, especially if there is only a 50% chance that the stud QB will make it to the draft. I'll keep giving it some thought, and please continue this thread with ideas.

Too many of the players are no good because they have key ratings for their position that are garbage. Like receivers with no speed or lineman with no strength. As far as I can tell those stats won't improve over time with Vol if the bar is only red then it can't improve beyond that unless it is red then blue. So if it's 40/40 all red it is max for that player. If it is 40/85 red/blue then it can improve.

Vol needs to be able to effect all of the players ratings. Or at least all of the ratings that are key to a players position. I got stuck with a safety in the 4th round of a draft that only has 15 speed. Because of the stupid AI picking after the list of players I had were taken before my pick. and there is no way to be real specific when setting up the AI to auto pick as far as what ratings to look for. So if the drafts are going to be as week as they have been, then all ratings must be more realistic to the position the player plays and must be able to improve because of Vol. It's no wonder most of the leagues are losing coaches. My one league is short 10 coaches.

i think physical ratings shouldn't be static as players get stronger and faster all the time in the pros but it shouldn't be as dramatic as skill attributes. A player may get faster by a a couple points throughout his career but not like 10+. My biggest gripe with the late rounds of the draft is the players are so physically challenged that they are worthless. There should never be guys playing skill positions that are below 60 speed or lineman that are below 50 strength. I think that if there were more middle tier players physically the high vol would allow for more late rounders to boom and be productive. Now that JDB has lowered the amount of high level players entering the drafts there should also be a change for more middle tier guys to balance out the draft and make the lower rounds more interesting. I know there's a new drafting system obfuscation but i have yet to experience it and am still skeptical. I still think the draft is one of the funnest parts of mfn but the AI drafting logic is fatally flawed. Every time i see a player drafted that makes me wonder "what the heck" it's almost always because the AI drafted them. This needs to be tweaked to balance out the public leagues. People miss their picks for a number of reasons but it shouldn't be the killer as it is now.
