There is a high school team in texas that kicks an onside kick every kickoff and goes for it every 4th down. I haven't kept tabs on them in years but they had gone like 5 years straight without a loss. It's a high risk/high reward strategy and I see nothing wrong with it. You see it far more often at the high school level. My high school coach used to tell us "If you can't put it in from 2 yards out you don't deserve the ball." We went on it in 4th and less than 5 probably half the time and were quite successful.

The article posted above talks about the high school team that doesn't punt. I tend to find the statistics that most of those studies are based misleading on principle. The issue that I have is that the statistical data is inherently skewed because common practice is to punt unless going for it is situationally advantageous or a team is desperate. In those cases, you're going to see more teams make the fourth down than not, which will skew the data toward going for it on all fourth downs.

Here's an interesting study that shows that NFL coaches may be too conservative.

Flawed logic. If a team is going for it on 4th down it's ALWAYS because it's advantageous or they are desperate. That's the whole point of it. It isn't going to matter if you go for it in the 1st quarter or the 4th quarter, you are going to see the same kinds of odds of making it. If anything, you might have MORE of a chance in the 1st quarter against a team that hasn't figured you out through the course of the game and your stars are fresh.

So then which attribute has an effect upon tendency to throw/not throw interceptions?

Accuracy -- it's a catch 22. A QB with low accuracy is going to complete fewer passes, but he'll miss so badly that he'll miss everyone. A QB with high accuracy is going to complete more passes, but he'll also throw closer to defenders when he misses throwing into double coverage.

Really, Intelligence and Discipline should prevent QBs from forcing the ball into double coverage, but they don't really do much in this game.

This just in: 28 accuracy QB (he's improved) throws 9 TDs in 100 point blow out win: https://cust78.myfootballnow.com/box/view/233

Through 11 games, he still doesn't complete 50%, but his TD:INT ratio is 40:14. I bet all y'all with 100 accuracy QBs would love that ratio. (I know I would.)

It's supposedly in the works in MFN-1, but it is still in unit testing.
