i was thinking you have full control of roster moves and depth chart as well as playbooks. THe one difference is you cant adjust your game plan or make rules

Id like a checkoff as to we do/dont want to handle:

X Coach Hiring
X Player Contracts
X Draft
X Trades
Gameplanning
X Depth Chart

Sorry for hijacking the thread! LOL

If X is what you DO want to handle, you can already do this.

If you're saying you ONLY want to gameplan, then...ignore my post.

If this were the case, then the winners really would come down to simply who can build a better roster.

Right now, teams that seem outmatched on paper can compete (and win) against "better" teams by gameplanning more effectively.

I've actually mulled the idea of having a league type where you only build your roster (no game planning), I hadn't thought of having one without trades.

In either case I wouldn't change any existing leagues, they would be new leagues with those settings.

So far off but, leagues where different users are owners who hire other users as GMs and also could hire other users as coaches. Having 3 or 4 users on a team. Some users could pick up label as this or that as thier area of specialty.

All is a fake money based thing, where as users win games they get money to invest in buying new teams. Or just have users pay real money to buy teams and hire other established users. It could get crazy, with the hiring and firing of users. A new user might have to start as say an offensive coordinator of something like that.

I think I tried a college game where the whole thing was designed that way, but I stayed one or two days.

ya i like building a roster part the best. I like to have a system and construct a team to fit it. The gameplanning is fun but it's time consuming and makes it hard for less active participants to compete. If you don't gameplan you have no chance in my opinion. It's definitely not an idea for all the leagues but i think there's a niche that a lot of people here would want to try out. Maybe a test league just to see how it goes

Yes the Xs are checkoffs ... lol

I know you can let the AI run gameplanning .. but you stand no chance of competing with teams that do their own.

That was probably a bad example because that would be the main difference between the 2 types of leagues .. lol

Id love a GM based league. I don't want any coaching responsibilities at all. Not my thing. Sadly, as it stands now thats the way to way to win a league.
Custom league of course ... lol. Appreciate your taking this suggestion!

Not me, at least not with the current AI.
Can you imagine how horrible the games/teams would be with the AI making all the decisions about the depth chart, selected plays from the playbooks, when to sit/start a player due to injury, etc.
It would be a constant game of 3TE/3RB sets, since those seem to be the only plays the AI recommends you select in your playbook.
Not to mention burying a 50 rated QB in the depth chart instead of switching his position to WR where he is rated at 85, playing your star RB in a meaningless week 16 game even though he is questionable with a leg injury, punting on 4th and 1 from the 50 when you're down by 6 with 1:15 to go, etc., etc.

@WarEagle
2 things
1 = with that attitude you aren't going anywhere fast in your life.
2 = You have to imagine if JDB did decide to make a league with he visions what he would want to do where we don't game plan he would probably work as twice as hard to make sure those things that you said don't happen because the whole part of him thinking of those ideas and making leagues like that would probably not last long or no one would be in them if those things did rear their ugly head.

I am guessing you were trying this game = http://cfbhc.com/index.php?/page/index.html

Unless it was this game that you were referring to = http://www.pigskinempire.com/login.aspx

Though I do like the idea where Users could team up on a team in a league on this website if that was your idea .

That way Bryson or at least I think that's the one that always said he learned things from setherick could be on the same team as setherick .

Heck even Roll Tide and War Eagle could be on the same team which would make things very interesting.

Do have to say you could have interesting pairs of users on the same team.

Only problem I can see happening is a team loses games or make bad plays who would get the blame like would that be War eagle or Roll tide if they were working together and if Bryson and setherick were working together does that mean setherick gets the blame or would that mean Bryson get it.

To win more than I lose I will definitely spend much more time building a roster than ever game planning. Say I take over a perennial loser and look at the roster. I will say this or that about the strengths and weaknesses there. Spend a half hour setting players to fit my scheme. After I will load a gameplan and see how many plays are missing. Fill out those plays and set my formations to match the plays I selected. Maybe another 30 minutes at most.

Say there is a draft or I want to trade for talent I will spend up to 30 minutes on each pick or trade. So there is another hour on roster, but as games pass I will set rosters each game and just do pass/run keys for 1st , 2nd & 3 and medium, and usually only 3rd and short & long also. Include a quick minute in Scout plays it's is like 5 minutes for each game total. Of course more if I want.

I would say rules(as I use none) is what wins a super bowl ( as i have won none)but I think roster wins in general hands down. Because my first allocation draft resulted in a nicely built roster good for a 30 -4 record without ever game planning or rules. As in my only other league had one guy over 77 and 5 over 70. They were horrid and my .500 record was representative of it even though I spent hours going into every detail of the game.

All I did was build a roster to my personal preference and let go of what i though should produce and picked players that could play to the code. That had the biggest effect. They just happen to be highly rated with speed or strength.

actually from my experience rules don't win super bowls I have 11 rules for every league I am in which btw 8 of those are offense rules and 3 of those are defense rules and I haven't won the super bowl though I have made the playoffs with teams that before I could never get to the playoffs.

So I think the Roster is the reason people win the super bowls.

Unless of course one of my leagues proves me wrong about that .
