Yep, what I have found is that overall rating means less than specific skills needed for that position. I have one league where my starting HB rates at 53 and my backup is at 70.
Get players that fit more into the scheme you want to run and worry less about rating (once you get below the mid 80s at least) and you will curse at the screen less.

When the overall doesn't reflect the value of the player, then I argue your weights are off.

Not really. The reason I started my weaker overall HB is that he is the faster of the 2 (I like to think that his speed gasses defenders early but maybe not) and has better quickness.
He does fumble more and doesn't catch as well out of the backfield though... and his pass blocking isn't as good either.

Do the passing improvements in MFN-1 fix BS plays like this? https://mfn67.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/153#36761

The open WR could walk over and take the ball away from the QB, but the QB would rather stare lovingly at a guy that is across the field.

By the way, I'm pretty sure there is a bug in the already kluge pass progression code. I've seen several plays where a WR runs a short route to completion. To my understanding, once a receiver completes his route, the QB can look elsewhere. But instead, the QB is just staring down the WR as the WR runs in circles around the field not knowing what to do.

Oh yeah, won the league with the 53 starting HB last season. ;)

Are you sure your weights aren't off?

Don't know, I don't use weights

Edit: My point (kinda) is that often a lower rated player performs better than his rating. I have had quite a bit of success with 60s and even some 50s rated players... as long as they have good numbers in the attributes I am looking for.

Same difference. If you adjust your weights to emphasize the attributes you value (and use), you'll find that your players are highly rated to you.

I still like to do my drafts live though so I can better find any gems that fall through the cracks, especially with OOP players.
If I were to need to do an auto-draft for some reason I would probably use the weights then.

Wait, what? Who said anything about using custom weights and auto-draft? I don't auto-draft anything. I use it to help set an order in case I step away from the computer, but I manually set the draft beforehand.
