Re: Scheme Change & Roster Size

1) When you change coach schemes (ie. 4-3 to a 3-4), do the player weights change (or the coach recommendations for weights)? I didn't see the weights prior to the scheme change, so would be good to know if I have to because of the new playbook. A 3-4 DE is *completely* different from a 4-3 DE.

2) Any way of allowing all 60 players to be active for pre-season and letting us sub in 3rd stringers as well? I only see a way now to take out starters after 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, but any way of giving the 3rd guys some more experience too? Or should we just basically deactivate our starters until the 3rd or 4th game after we've evaluated our backups more?

The coaches' recommendations to change based on their offensive and defensive styles, but it's fairly minor. It would actually be quite interesting to have a thread that discusses some of the expected differences, because I would like to spend more time getting more variation in this area.

I can't find any pre-season roster rules for the NFL that indicate that there are more active players than during the regular season, but I'm open to discussion on this topic, especially if the NFL allows for larger pre-season active roster counts and I juts can't find a reference to it.

Pretty reliable source: http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2013/8/22/4647088/nfl-roster-cut-deadlines-rules-preseason

Will also look for the official league rules, though.

I actually have seen those numbers (I have not implemented that just because managing a roster of 90 players will result in most of them being really bad players - even 60 gives you plenty of players that you know won't make the team) - but have you seen anything that says that a team can have more than 47 players active during pre-season games?

Haven't run across anything yet... If I do, I'll toss it here.

Reading that article does bring up another point that we are missing the ability to sign an 8 man practice squad, which would be somewhere you can put raw talent not counting to your playing team for development purposes.

I've gone back and forth on that actually - I may do it after we have a waiver wire system (where teams can take over the contract of a cut player in priority order with worst team first) so that the cut players have to clear waivers before you can sign them to the practice squad.

I can't find anywhere that explicitly says that the active roster is increased, just the roster limit, but how else would the 7-8th receiver that wont even make the practice squad play in the 3rd and 4th quarters? I know the Redskins, at one point, had 6 HBs, 8 WRs, 4 TEs play in one preseason game. There's no way you can field 18 skill players without an increased active game roster. A normal game has like 11 (3 HB, 5 WR, 3 TE) at the most.

I would also like a Practice Squad. It sucks having to cut a player you really want to see if they will develop into anything or not - they're essentially still free agents in a way because anybody can sign somebody on another team's PS (as long as they are put on the active roster), but they get conditioning and learn your playbook on the PS. Also, it was recently extended to 10 players - so we'd actually have *more* players on our PS than we do get in the preseason. I'd be okay with just 7 to make it an even 60 total.

Waivers would also be cool, too. Another way to provide more balance.

I think I may go ahead and allow 60 active players for pre-season - it would also solve the issue where all your depth chart is fatigued and you end up with a punter at HB. I will see if I can't get this installed in MFN-1 in time for the upcoming pre-season.

Just so you know, this has been pushed to MFN-1 for testing. It probably won't get into MFN-6 at the end of the current season (should be there for the 2019 season) and won't be in MFN-7 until it finishes its first season, but should make it to MFN-2 in time for the next pre-season.
