Re: unchecked plays being called the next game

You won’t get overuse penalty from man def non blitzing plays, also that breaks down to 4 calls per play if it was completely even (which of course it isn’t) but that’s not enough religion to break it down. There are several successful owners that only have 5-6 defensive plays called week in and out, tho I’m not sure how many are actually selected in the playbook and if it is just their rules keeping the selection so tight.

Great info. Not sure why someplays get penalized but some don't. Though, in the moment - it leads to why dime based and man db sets are not (edit: significantly / reliably) called by the current code.

Any ideas other than far too much rule work to counter it? I've fiddled enough with the DB def gp tab to know no matter how much I weight man it's not going to make man defenses get called more (though oddly man/b1 is called a LOT, over 1m/b1, regardless).

It's my experience in MFN that less is more when play calling. The code is broken for some plays which makes them completely unusable. Example being EVERY long pass play is bad and results in a 0 or less average per play which means I use 0 long pass plays.

That leaves outside, inside, short & medium.

Only a few outside run plays are worth calling so the majority of plays used are inside, short & medium.

As far as defensive rules: yes I have written rules for every formation set 113, 23, 212 and have a run or pass key option for each. That's 100% run or 100% pass for each formation.

When scouting an opponent I use times called instead of average per attempt and sort by formation. If someone passing a ton out of 113 then I activate my 113 pass key rule and so on.

Yes writing all those rules can take some time but it's a one time thing since you can save those rules and use them across different leagues. Once they are written it's just a matter of activating them or not.

How do you determine your r/p/n settings ( the last item in rule creation pop up). Is it ratio or a direct percentage? I am going to assume calling nuetral is better than calling wrong priority.

my only flexible d rule is vs 2/3/0. My last game the opponent passed roughly 1 of 4 times the 2/3/0 was used (iver 4 games). I too, use your math - so we are on the same page there.

If my opponent only runs - then it's 90R/10N. If it's say 3 runs of every 4 uses, then I roll with 65 or 70 R (gut instinct lol) and 35/30N. That's assuming direct percentages with a +/- of 5-7%.

Here's my rule set (vs lmy last opponent 3 runs of every 4 plays used in 2/3/0):

Down: First Down, Second Down, Third Down, Fourth Down,
Distance: 0 - 30 To Go
Location: Own 0 - Opp 0
Personnel: 2RB/3TE
Quarter: First Quarter, Second Quarter, Third Quarter, Fourth Quarter, Overtime
Time: 15:00 - 0:00
Score: Down 29+ - Up 29+
Personnel: Goal Line: 0%, Normal Defensive Backfield: 100%, Nickel: 0%, Dime: 0%, Quarter: 0%
Secondary: 1-Deep Man: 0%, 2-Deep Man: 0%, 3-Deep Zone: 0%, 4-Deep Zone: 0%, Corner Blitz: 0%, Safety Blitz: 0%, 2-Deep Zone: 0%, Man: 100%, 3-Deep Man: 0%, 4-Deep Man: 0%
Linebackers: Zone: 0%, Blitz 1: 0%, Blitz 2: 100%, Blitz 2+: 0%, Man: 0%, Zone In: 0%
Run/Pass: Run: 70%, Pass: 0%, Neutral: 30%

Right path? wrong path? THoughts?
THX!

PS EDIT: I'm aware of how to use the view plays option and it's approximations given. This feature, alongwith the 1 game x 1 time called drop downs, is how I discovered unchecked plays being called. I admit I'm likely wrong, but I sit here thinking I did everything right.

Personally, I'm the all on nothing type guy so let's say I scout my opponent and see this for tge 113 set.

He passed 46 times and ran 11 times on 57 plays but I'm using my 100% pass key on 113 because I'm not concerned about the 11 runs that averaged 1.7 yards.

You will find absolutes like someone always runs or always passes for some sets but I'm playing the best odds. Someone that runs & passes equally from different sets is harder to beat but I'm looking for whatever edge I can find.

The only play that concerns me is the HB mid release because it has worked great for him. Plus the HB FLARE is a staple for most good offenses

He runs the ball 19% of the time in tye 113 but I have no problem using the wrong key against that because it isn't a solid gainer for him
