Unsure about the penalty, or if it's even a bug

So I apologize because I'm unsure what the correct ruling is, And, then I have no idea if I am correct, that this would be considered a bug?

https://mfn27.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/2562#461284

Ball is snapped, (penalty flag is dropped <I thought this would be a "free play" for the offense if the flag is on the D>) on SF 13, 1st and 10. QB throws a short pass, runner gains 10 yards to the 3 yard line. Instead of it being 2nd and inches (if he didn't quite reach the 1st down) or 1st and goal from the 3, the ball is moved to the 8 yard line, 1st and Five.

Thanks in advance explaining how the ball was put backwards on a defensive penalty.

Defense moved before ball was snapped. It's called offsides. It's a 5-yard penalty that occurs before the play starts. Offsides (whether offensive or defensive) is a penalty that will always be enforced without play continuation.

Thanks for the quick response. I thought the offense had the option, my bad.

Actually the play will continue if it's offsides by the defense as long as the defensive player doesn't have a clear shot at qb or they contact an offensive player. The ref uses a judgement call. Most offsides is not whistled and the offense essentially has a free play. On MFN it seems they always accept the penalty unless the play results in a first down. I get frustrated with this code as well.

Thanks Bryson. It said he gained 10 yards, but often that leaves you at 2nd and short. Must have been the case.

Changing the topic to the new engine?

Two things that seem "off the charts" since the new engine, one has been mentioned MULTIPLE times (with good reason I might add) are all the missed FG'S and now even the Point After. The second thing is ALL of the FUMBLES!! They are driving me crazy. Won't go into it any further as I KNOW this isn't the place for it.

JDB has confirmed the Ai ALWAYS accepts the penalty if the play does not result in a first down.

Even if it's 1st and 30 and you complete a pass for 29 yards. The Ai will take the penalty in order to have 1st and 25 instead of 2nd and 1.

Not trying to be a nitpicker (but I realize I am, sorry) but it was first and 10, and the play said he gained 10 yards. *shrug*

they round up in the details. So if he gained 9+ and didn't get the first down then the penalty wouldve been accepted. I think this is something that should be changed but that's why it happened
