I may have said this before, but I want to repeat it: if I create a Rule on Defense (or offense for that matter), I don't want to specify formations, whether the LBs blitz, what the safeties are doing - I want to be able to set a list of plays that go with that rule. Not mere suggestions, a list that it MUST choose from. Takes a lot of fun out of game planning when your realize all you can do is make suggestions and HOPE it calls what you want.

I believe JDB has it this way so you can't exactly pinpoint and destroy certain plays or be able to design something so targeted the other team doesn't stand a chance.

Forcing you into an accepting the bad alongside the bliss you're aiming for in running a strategy vs. a la carte no consequence rule set-up best of the best play selection.

Depends on what you have in your def playbook. It takes very little work to limit the number of plays the ai chooses from. I usually only have 2 choices for any given db/lb combo and I tend to make very specific rules.
It is more difficult to do within offensive rules - mostly because having a broad selection of plays for the ai to choose from works in one's favor. However, it is still possible to trim a set down to 1-2 plays and set up a specific rule. I may be wrong, but I believe there is no penalty for over calling offensive plays. Everyone should have a couple surprises in their grab bag :)

Edit: it really does help to sit down and take some time to do crazy math on everything, know what plays you have in any situation (how many s,m,l pass? in,out run, 1 man deep w/ man lb, etc etc) prior to making rules. I dunno, i have way too much free time.

Yeah, offensive plays I don't really have a problem with, don't want to get over-focused and make it an easier for defensive game planning.
