Volatility

If a player has 100 Future Rating with 100 Volatility, would he be able to exceed the 100 future rating? Not necessarily that he would be shown as a 105, but I guess he would perform better than your average 100 rating player at the same position. If this isn't implemented already, this could an extra wrinkle to add to the game. It'll help distinguish star players Terrell Owens and greatest of all time level players like Jerry Rice. Not all 100's are created equal.

Interesting question actually, I'm curious what would happen too. Is a 100 vol projected 100 player thus guaranteed to bust because there's nowhere to go but down?

Ratings are capped between 0 and 100. So yes, a player with 100 future rating and high volatility has a 50/50 chance of either staying where he is or being a bust. This will likely drop his draft stock and push him into later rounds. If someone snags him in a late 1st or even 2nd or 3rd round, and he turns out to not be a bust, what a steal he would be! But if someone takes him at 1.1 he is rolling the dice.

Part of the goal in giving you access to this number is to get better talent into later rounds, and also to encourage you to take a chance on a lower rated but high volatility player in those later rounds.

I would have thought a player with 100 overall and 100 volatility might have the chance to ride that 100 rating further into his career without decreasing like most players do. That is if he's a boom rather than a bust. Is that an incorrect assumption?

Okay, but just because he is a 100 Rating doesn't mean he has 100 in everything (though very near it in the most important stuff).

Is there the opportunity for a 100 Rated 100 Volatility Player to get big Gains in Individual Abilities, while of course the Overall stays at 100?

The volatility affects the individual ratings, yes. A player with a 100 boom will likely have his blue increase at a rate almost as fast as his red.

Does a change due to volatility hit all skills equally/proportionately? Can a change due to volatility impact speed/acceleration/strength/intelligence/discipline ratings?

Each attribute has the future rating updated independently of each other, and it only applies to attributes that start off with blue separating their current rating with their future potential.
