Seminars and Camps.

Basically, I'd like to get some interaction out of the Coaching Staff, and give them more ability to impact the Team.

For instance, all Coaches could go to Seminars. The NFL has Seminars all the time, on a variety of things. Want to learn how to Coach a Tampa 2, they've got that. Want to learn how to implement a Zone Blocking Scheme, regardless of the actual Plays being ran (in other words, an intent focus on ONLY the OL/TE and how they Zone Block, which can be implemented into any Offensive Scheme), they got that. Want to learn how to run a West Coast Offense, they got that.

But I'd also like Coaches to have more interaction in Training as well, instead of the static passive we have. Well, not 'instead', but layered with.

So, for Coaches:

It would be awesome if every Off-Season we could send each Coach (Position) to 1 Seminar, each Coordinator to 2 and each Head Coach to 3.

Now the bottom line of these Seminars would be the chance (but a realistic chance) to gain something.

Let's do this by actual examples. So start with a Position Coach, we'll go with a WR Coach. So he could go to an Offense Seminar. If that Offense is the same as the OC and HC, he gets a boost to his ability to progress his WRs and possibly the slightest of bumps to In Game Performance. This impact lessens if the OC and HC have different Offensive Philosophies, but there would still be a gain (Play Book is by HC, so say 65% for HC and 35% for OC... 100% of what ever the 'bonus' is if both match).

So let's say that by going to the System Seminar the Coach has a chance to gain from 0-4 Points at each Offensive Position. The less he knows about a Position, the more Knowledge he can gain... so his Off Positions would have the greatest chance of really moving (which helps as you 'Groom' him to be an OC or HC one day).

Now let's say you have a WR Coach with no career aspirations as far as climbing the ranks, but he DOES want to be the Best WR Coach ever (or, you know, YOU want him to be the Best WR Coach ever). Since the System Seminar doesn't favor his Best Role, he may be only getting 0-1 at WR... where as he got 3 at LG and that was his highest (OC didn't match the Scheme, for instance). So instead, he ONLY goes to WR Specific Camps. The ONLY Position he can gain in is WR now, but the range is say from 2-5. Obviously we don't want 5 popping all the time.

I'm getting long winded here and don't want to TL;DR... so let me just put it this way.

I'd like to see an RPG element added so we can develop our Staff.
I'd like it to impact Player Growth, but also Scheme Experience (so we could, over time, make a 34 DC into a 43 DC or simply give them more ability over all so they can HC).
I'd like for the potential of Plays to be learned.

Also, every Coach should have a Play Book (they likely do for the case they are made a Head Coach). And every Coach on the Staff should have a chance to learn plays they don't know from each other.

Would things like "+1 to All OL Pass Blocking" be to much of a boost to gain for Coaches? Just little things like that.

Just an idea... a rather long and not well explained idea. :D

i like it but before this is put into effect we need the coaching contracts updated to nfl standard.
current nfl rules on coach contracts are that:
1. assistant coaches (OC, DC and all position coaches) cannot be offered a contract by anyone but their current team unless it's for a head coach position or if the team the coach is currently working for gives permission(usually is granted as a courtesy, especially if it's for an offer to become an OC or DC) while they are still under contract
2. head coaches may be contacted(offered contracts) during the off-season with their teams permission(usually is granted as a courtesy)
3. a head coach contract may be set up for automatic permission to be granted for contact during off-season in which case the current team can get a right of first refusal (can match the contract offered in order to keep the coach)
4. an assistant coach contract can never have a right of first refusal provision

This isn't the NFL, in MFN almost no one would give their coaches permission to talk to other teams. Especially if coaches had more of an impact.

correct, but that's why i said we need the nfl rules before starting being able to improve coaches otherwise it would just mean your coaches would be poached as soon as you got them improved then you would have to start all over again

I might be interesting if you had to give up a draft pick or something in order to poach another team's coach.
HC = 2nd (losing team would have to approve?)
OC/DC = 3rd
Asst = 4th

Might make people think twice about stealing your coaches, but at least you'd get something in return.

I do hope this discussion continues.

I know the coding would be tough, but I feel it would add a greater depth and variety to the game that would be a major positive (once the bugs were found and squashed, as with any new mountain of code).

I'm also interested in hearing more ideas on how Coaches could Improve themselves, and also impact the team.

For instance, the idea of an Offensive Line Coach being able to add +1 to all OL on the Roster... and keeping that Trait as he moves up in Jobs. So as an OC he still has that ability, or as a HC... and can earn others.

If you had a HC, OC and an OL Coach with that same ability, a +3 isn't changing the world but who wouldn't be happy to have a +3 Run Block/Pass Block on all their OL (or just Run Block, or just Pass Block... you could train them to be Balanced, Run or Pass all by which Seminars you send them to).

Also, a Strength and Conditioning Coach would be cool. Helping in areas like Speed and Strength (help Young Players increase these faster, keep Old Players from losing them as fast), Conditioning and perhaps Agility. This wouldn't 'add' anything, just help those that would already progress do so faster and those that would be hitting the decline to lessen the rate of decline... IF you have a good Trainer. (Things like +1 Speed or Strength... over an entire Roster... might be a bit to much).
