What happens when AI picks a LB/Secondary combo but you have no plays of that type?

Just like the title says...what happens when the LB/Secondary combination that gets "rolled" doesn't have a play of that type selected?

Example, say I set up my Defensive Plays as follows (simplified for an example):

GL: 1 Blitz 2/Man play, 1 Blitz 2+/Man play
Normal:1 Blitz 1/Man play, 1 Blitz 2/Man play, 1 Blitz 2+/Man play
Nickel: 1 Blitz 1/Man play, 1 Blitz 2/Man play
Dime: 1 Blitz 1/Man play
Quarter: 1 Blitz 2/Man play

Since I have 3 different types of plays selected (Blitz 1, Blitz 2, Blitz 2+, all Man Secondary), let's say for a certain situation I set up a game plan of:

Secondary: Man 100%
Linebackers: Blitz 1 30% / Blitz 2 40% / Blitz 2+ 30%

I believe that (rules aside) the AI will select a defensive personnel group to match the offense's personnel group. If this results in a Normal defensive backfield, then no problem...I've got a play for each possible type. But if it's any of the other defensive personnel group, that's not the case (often because there isn't a play of each type for every personnel group in my playbook).

So let's say the offense comes out in 11 personnel so the defense matches with Nickel. Then the "die roll" for play type results in "Blitz 2+/Man". But I don't have any plays of that type for Nickel personnel.

What play (or play type) gets selected?

My guess is a reroll

Code simplified

RNG
If x then y
Y=0
Goto RNG

I am guessing it would not search outside of the nickel formation . You would get a lot of blitzes pending if no rules are used. Especially if you faced only spread sets without dime or quarters in your book.

You can see the likelihood of each play being called by clicking on the 'view plays' button below the quadrant. The larger the bar, the more likely that play will be called. This popup takes into consideration all of your current game plan settings for that quadrant against the selected plays in your playbook.

Ah! Right. I never thought about the View Plays screen and how it relates to my question. What your saying makes sense. Even better, the screen includes these statements (one offense, one defense):

Your coach will select the play type first, then will select a play within that group based on the weights listed below.

Unless you change this behavior using gameplan rules, your defensive personnel will always match the offensive personnel first, and the applicable plays will be selected from this personnel.

That makes the AI's process pretty clear.

Thanks so much, raymattison21!!
