Pre-Season... What do you do with it?

As one of the new guys here, I'm curios what people us the pre-season for?

I'm trying to figure out what I need to pay attention to in the pres-season. I'm thinking scouting offence and defence is important, but what else if anything?

Pretty much the same as the NFL; You prepare for the coming season.

You start checking (more thoughougly) what plays worked and which didn't, you check which WR, RB, CB are turning 30 (where they start losing speed), you check if there's anyone hitting FA from your team, that you want to extend. You check FA if there's someone you want to pick up before everyone start looking.

Through everything you do, you always keep an eye on the cap. As you can see on my team, with how this simulation works, you can play without ever getting into cap trouble. I've done one big splash for DE Cunningham and that's it. Apart from that, I've stayed away from the biggest guys on day one of free agency, as I have no idea what I should offer them and what is really viable and I if I'm going to bust my team, it shouldn't be because I couldn't manage the cap.

Playing time ups conditioning which moderates fatigue recovery rates. Having higher conditioning will allow for better chances not to get injuried when starters are playing 70 to 100 snaps for the first game.

Upping play familiarity on both sides will produce slightly better results . Scouting does that too but is really beneficial in big games cause you get an in game boost to that play if it is overused by your opponent .

I use preseason for those two things . Playing with the depth depth chart and fatigue settings under misc. Along with overides , under depth chart , the misc. Section has a bunch of setting to change to get who you want on the feild learning .

Thats the balance ....... learning , but conditioning . You can sit a vet in the nfl for the preseason . Do that here and you star player is most likely going to injuried that first game.

Unless they are qb... They don't get injuries as much...same for K and punter . They don't get injuried at all.

I like to get my young guys a bit more snaps in preseason but watch for low accuracy qbs they will make any good offense look bad. Those guys need 50 + to get any real good film to study for game to game changes. So unless your building his knowledge of stuff its better to let them mature on the bench.

Thanks Lamba. I'll have to read up on plays and understanding how they work, which one's aren't ect.

I got burned by a RB turning 30 and losing a big chink of speed. Now I know.

I'm hesitant to spend large on FA, but that's just my frugal nature.

I actually had a kicker get injured not to long ago, current season in the roster only league I'm part of. Took me by surprise! He was hurt on the final kickoff in game 2. He's healthy now at game 8, but game 3 he went 2 for 5, missing everything longer than 40 yards. Game 4 wasn't too bad though. By game 5 he was back to good form. It does happen, but it's very rare.

Thanks RM21,

Lots of info here, it'll be a while before I can get all of it together.

Wow! First for me, but it's awesome to see it thanks!

Heres the play...interesting enough it's fits the pattern here even for a kicker . 8 kick offs , 4 xps, 3FGs , it was later in the game, and he had less than 100 conditioning.. he was blocked by a strong fast db on that play , and it was a leg injury tag.

Must have pulled a hamstring !

The maximum amount any one injuried category can deplete ratings is up to 25%. So you were playing with lesser ratings while he was injured . If it were his arm that would have been a different story.
