What is a Possession Offense

I have a head coach with 'Possession Offense' listed as his offensive play style but am not sure what this style of offense really is?

Possession Offense is a nook and cranny style. Minimalistic approach.

Running mixed with high percentage passing taking few risks in throwing it down field. It's going on a march with your offensive drives while looking to dominate the clock.

How "Possession Offense" and "MFN" go together specifically, I don't know. Basically, you can run any offensive style you desire out of any assigned "Possession/Passing/Whatever" assignments the game gives to your head coaching style.

I should add that, of course, each offensive style has its own unique plays (handful amount), which is exclusive to in this case....Possession Offense.

But beyond that you're not really married to whatever offense style is listed.

It seems to be heavy on plays aimed specifically at the first down marker. Go ten yards and then make a catch at the hashmark kind of stuff. More progress, maybe not as many touchdowns.

Thanks all, makes sense and will put together a playbook to see how it goes.

For a possession offence to be successful, you need a good O-line and a few tough hard running backs that can keep the chains moving and the clock going. Running the ball more leaves open the PA pass deep for the gamble every now and then.

Probably the most important thing that aids a successful possession offense is a good solid defense. It is much easier to **** down that clock if your defense keeps the ball in your QB's hands.
