Right, if he's still under contract he shouldn't be allowed to leave for a better position or for more money laterally. Should be treated as a trade, coach for player, coach for coach, coach for picks, coach for money.

In the NFL coaches can be poached as long as it's for a promotion. Why would it be any different here?

I don't see how you offer a currently employed coach a coaching job with your team. If I click on a coach currently employed, I don't get an option to offer him a promotion with my team.

You can only do this during the Early Free Agency period at the beginning of the season.

If the coach is under contract, yes teams will generally rip up the contract to allow that coach to move on to a promotion, but it is still the decision of the team he is under contract with. So if you can get an owner here to let their coach who is still under contract to go to another team without getting anything in return, good luck!

The problem here would be those position coaches who would be a top 5 to 10 coach would never get the chance because nobody here would ever let them out into the market instead wanting to hoard them as a position coach or something.

Exactly. If it were voluntary to allow your coaches to be poached, no one would ever allow it to happen on MFN because there's no personal relationship involved with your staff.

Also, teams can only ever elect to block a coach from interviewing for OC/DC positions, since for whatever reason it isn't officially recognized as a promotion. It is however not possible for a team to prevent an assistant from interviewing for a HC position.

That's where you have to weigh the return. Possibly a same position coach not rated as high + a player of need. The one mans trash is another mans treasures. You might have another coach on staff that fills the roll vacated and the coach you get in return fits your need at another position, + a good prospect. Who knows, you might catch somebody drunk and make a deal happen!

Are you sure about this, even if they are under contract? I believe it's just common courtesy to allow them to interview and accept offers.
