Back loading contracts.

I don’t know how many are doing this. It is brilliant in a way until everyone is doing it. Paying top FA nothing in the first few years of the contract then paying a crazy amount in the final year of the contact to get all the coveted FA in a league for nothing. Should not the first year be set then a % be add to each year? Or is everyone going to add 20 to 30 zeros to the 6th year of contacts?

Do you have an example of what you are talking about?

Yes here are some examples

My own

https://mfn8.myfootballnow.com/player/13242

Resigned for less the he was already making. of course he will be cut after year 5

So for my example a TE for 4 years demanded 39m for 4 years I just resigned basically for 5 years for 25m. So a TE in his prime for 50% less than his first 4 years

And here

https://mfn8.myfootballnow.com/player/12080
https://mfn8.myfootballnow.com/player/11744

Basically paid min bonuses but signed because the total amount was high because the final year salary which will never count against the cap because the player will be cut.

I don’t get the renegotiated part for that TE. But to think I get what what your saying. As it goes by bonus and you want to them pay that bonus over 6 years and pay the least base salary overall . . But I think your saying the base for years 1-5 is considerably lower with this back loading? Opening more cap for the current year?

As for the guys in FA it seem like a clear bug of sorts as the base is taken in to account after the bonus in the players decision. Some one could just offer more bonus but how much more to make up for 70 mil added to the base... like you said that will never have to be paid.

Good stuff I never knew you could do that but like I said how effective is it? Any nfl agent would know this money is not really available to the player

I dont think the big salary bump in the final year accomplishes anything. The player will take the most guaranteed money..

for FAs it does something especially if you gonna cut the player before hand. You’ll need the cap to play with.... which is possible because players are cheap. Like I said the question is how much does it matter. That part is secret, but to agree with you it’s bonus that matters and top flight FAs will garner higher bonuses

Hey Jdavid,

I would like to ask you what are the main variables to the Free agent signing logic in the game.
I've seen stuff really making me scratch my head so i wanted to have some of your insight on how it works... Thanks

Right now the biggest thrust is the guaranteed money, with the base salary playing a lesser role. In general, the bigger the bonus the more likely they are going to sign, but of course the bigger the bonus the bigger the cap hit if they retire or you trade or cut them

This. It's a psychological game that folks should understand and not fall into: https://usflwfl.myfootballnow.com/forums/1/2011?page=1&x=lCc8mlQfTJ#12592

Chances are that senna is getting players because no one else wants to bid 10s of millions on veterans and don't realize that he's only paying a minimum guarantee.

Talking on all the private leagues rules..... it would be neat to let everyone hit the FA market so they can garner a real value. As it is now you can lock someone in cheap on the reneg. This is what makes for so much available cash in the first place. Then comes the overbidding for the guys who actually make it to FA.

Excluding a franchise tag, which would be neat to add but would be interesting to moderate , all guys should skip FA 1 through whatever. Then at the end of draft or late FA bids should be put out . This would get the talented players what they deserve at year 5 and on and caps wouldn’t be so open to all the minor exploits available.

much like using a players weight, as well a height , would shrink the scale of “exploits “ even more. But moderating height would be an equal nightmare , like weight, and like the low renegotiated contracts of elite player.

Then we could complain on how the plays don’t work as they should.....still I would be into a league with all the rules not just ones that show up and are implemented. As the list seems never ending if you really micromanage it

We have way to much cap space, we should be able to create new leagues with 20% less cap.

If you seriously think about it, it would solve so many problems and make the game challenging and fun as managing the cap is why we play this game??? or maybe not
