New Blog Post (weather)

It's been an eternity since I've posted a blog post, but wanted to throw something up there in light of having to switch from Dark Sky for weather data. For those who haven't heard of Dark Sky, it was an amazing weather app that Apple recently bought and subsequently decided to kill both Android support as well as their extremely popular API, which drove the weather engine in MFN. I found a new partner in Visual Crossing and put together a little write-up about how weather data is generated in MFN: http://blog.myfootballnow.com/2020/07/weather-data.html

Some of the teams in my Leagues could be getting games postponed due to frozen pitches and blizzards. LOL

Believe it or not, I had a hard time getting super cold weather at Longyearbyen when I was testing. It doesn't get super cold there until after the first of the year - the only way I could get extremely cold was to get a playoff game there, here's a screen shot:

I have never seen a game on here with either rain or snow.

How does weather impact gameplay? Is there a penalty for throwing/running in heavy precipitation? I've never noticed to scout teams based on weather, either. I would figure outdoor games in rough weather conditions would usually dictate more conservative play.

Since you don't know ahead of time what the weather conditions will be, the impact is not significant (but does exist). In truth, if you study the impact of weather conditions on the real NFL, it is ultimately insignificant except in the most extreme weather conditions.

Fog would be fun. Then I wouldn't have to see my horrid gameplans.
