There are plenty of ways to build a team. No one way is perfect. That said, sucking for entire season is a lot of work and the rewards are marginal. Good luck to everyone and however they want to play the game.

This isn't really the point of the thread, but I think that more veteran owners should take over bad teams and try to turn them around. There are some TERRIBLE teams out there that need some TLC...

A few seasons ago I took over a team that was 0-11 and never had had a winning season. I finished the first season 1-15 and got the #1 pick, (JDB is right, it wasn't that big of a deal...) Slowly I've managed to turn it around and about 5 seasons into the project I've made the final, (which I'll most likely loss to Setherick tomorrow.) I've lost WAY more games with this team than any other I've had, but it's been a fun ride. I'm more proud of this team than any of my others...

I've never tanked, I always try to win. But too much emphasis is put on winning; it's okay to rebuild. It can be fun and rewarding to take a **** team and make them better.

the teams i pick are always rebuilds,2-14 to 5-11,this to me is the most fun,but at the same time the most frustrating way to play.it usually will take around 5 yrs to pay-off,but its yur baby n you live n die with them.i dont always hav total sucess, but the team will b in much better shape when i leave it.the biggest plus is:you see the growth and failures in small ecrements, which ultimitely should make you a better coach.everyone has there own philosophy,so to each, his own.one draft wont make a team,so why tank, its not in the spirit of the game.btw the nfl should adopt the nhl's draft lottery, teams no longer hav a reason to tank games, nuff said

I LOVE rebuilds!!! I've been lucky. Never had worse than an 8-8 season my rookie year with any team (knocks on wood).

I'm partial to the allocation drafts. I've done 4. Really enjoy it but didn't get a chance to be in one until I already had two other teams which were rebuilds. 4-12 and 6-10. Recently took over Cincy in M63 which was cap challenged and had to take a new approach. I guess I'm saying I really enjoy all the different aspects of this game. Thanks JDB.

Depends on where they are trying to move up from.

I gave a haul to Trade for the LBs selected 5th and 6th Overall in MFN-7 (I selected another LB 7th).

I gave that haul because I correctly assumed those 3 Players in tandem would be worth more to me than my next 2 Seasons of Picks. So I sent Future 1st, 2nd and 3rds to acquire them for the next 2 Seasons. I went 2 Years without a Draft Pick in the first 3 Rounds... but to me, it was worth it.

Now, that Team is heading to the Championship Game (to face the 16-0 Seattle of KoB). It's going there on the back of those 3 LBs (one converted to DE) that each get 20+ Sacks a Season now, and my very first Draft Pick ever, a TE I converted to RB that's finally paying off 5 Seasons later.

That was my first 2 Drafts... picking 7th because I took over a fairly bad team, then selling the farm the next Draft to set my Defense for a Decade.

Now, none of that was for the 1st... but if those LBs had been selected 1st and 2nd I'd have still went after then in Trade. I tried to get the 1st Pick for Bolden (the LB that went 5th) but was turned down.

But remember, I don't believe the 1st Overall really matters. I think you need MULTIPLE High Picks in a good Draft Year, so you can have all those guys in their Prime at the same time.

So I wouldn't use the Current 1st to move up to #1 Overall, I'd try to use Future Picks to do that, and keep my Current 1st with it. Otherwise, it's not worth it for me (if Building a Team).

Now if I have a Built Team... and I covet a specific player at a Position of Need... sure, I sell the farm to move up and secure him. Because another WR on a Team with 4 All Pros isn't going to help me, but getting that CB I'm missing will. So I need a specific Player, not just a good player.

Most MFN Teams have a lot of holes, so the difference in 1st and 10th doesn't matter, you'll walk out with a good Player and your Team is improved. But some teams are more built and have very specific needs, and if they want the Top guy at that Need, they have to pay to move up and get him.

I am so happy for you!

You turned Denver around and I almost felt bad beating you as you are one of my favorite owners in this game. I have followed your team with some interest as you would write of them and really put a lot of effort to get them to championship level. Great job bro, you did a terrific job building them.

I wish you continued success and if we can't win it all, I'll be pulling for Denver!!
